Yosl Bergner – born in Vienna 1920, grew up in Warsaw. Immigrated to Australia 1920.
Studied in the National Gallery. In Second World War fought in the Australian Army.
Immigrated to Israel 1950. Lived in Safed , afterwards in Tel Aviv. Famous as painter, theatrical designer, and book illustrator. His works have distinctive expressive style. Participated in Biennale in Venice & San Paolo, exhibitions in Paris and many others . Awarded the Israel Prize 1979-80.
